INVESTOR AWARENESS AND EDUCATION PROGRAM ON 25TH AUGUST 2018

AFLC in collaboration with CDSL, and Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd , Kolkata organise an Investor Awareness and Education Program in Bhubaneswar on 25 August 2018. In all, 40 participants, comprising senior bank, RBI , NABARD officials, senior citizens and young entrepreneurs attended the program.

The topic of discussion was: “ From Bank Deposits to Mutual Funds and Equity”.
At the outset, D.Mishra, Managing Partner welcomed the guests and participants and explained the objective of the program.

Shri Subir Kumar Mitra, former Executive Director, NABARD inaugurated the workshop and said that such programs are need of the hour . Senior citizens and young investors should be empowered to deal with Securities market, with comfort and confidence.

Shri Arnav Dutta, AVP, Motilal Oswal and Shri Somanath Majumdar , CDSL, Kolkata conducted the program and interacted with the participants.

Shri Pravat Mohanty, Nirmal Bang , Bhubaneswar unit proposed a vote of thanks.

WORKSHOP ON FINANCIAL LITERACY IN THE PG DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS IN RAVENSHAW UNIVERSITY, CUTTACK ON 21 AUGUST

AFLC conducted a Workshop on Financial Literacy in the PG Department of Economics in Ravenshaw University, Cuttack on 21 August 2018.

At the outset, Dr Chitta Ranjan Nayak, Asst Professor of the Department welcomed the guests and gave a short introduction of them.  Shri D.Mishra, Managing Partner of AFLC briefly explained the objectives and activities of the entity. He said that financial literacy rate in Odisha at 9 per cent is far below the national average of 23 per cent. He emphasized that financial literacy at the school/ college level can bring transformation in the society and further financial inclusion.

Shri Siladitya Choudhury, former General Manager , RBI explained the Financial Awareness Messaging (FAME) Framework of RBI. He briefly explained the KYC procedure for dealing with banks. He further explained a sound credit culture, credit score concept. Mr Choudhury explained Rule of 72 and its applicability.

Shri G.C. Bisoi , Manager, Office of Banking Ombudsman , Bhubaneswar explained the importance of developing a saving habit from the childhood and place the savings in a bank, regulated by RBI. He then touched upon concept of Compounding of Interest, SACHET package of RBI and cyber risks. He explained the grievance redressal system with the banks and role of Banking Ombudsman in dealing with Complaints in banking system.

Smt Ranu Mishra, Consultant in Payment Systems and former Manager, NPCI explained the Digital Banking and Mobile banking. She explained card infrastructure: credit, debit and Rupay cards. Briefly she touched upon UPI, BHIM and explained how the new products have changed the Payment System scenario in the country.
A Financial Quiz was conducted by Siladitya Choudhury. Popular books on Management were given as prizes to 10 award winners. Around 120 PG students and staff participated in the workshop.

It may be recalled that D.Mishra and R.C Das of AFLC called on Dr Prakash C. Sarangi, then Vice Chancellor, Ravenshaw University on 10 February 2017, and discussed about conducting Financial Literacy workshops in the University. It is satisficing that it has materialized coinciding with the  University celebrating 150 years Anniversary.

 

Workshop on Financial Literacy at Government High School (SSD), Naranpur, 4th August 2018

We have the pleasure in informing that AFLC conducted a Workshop on Financial Literacy at Government High School, (SSD) Naranpur, Keonjhar on 4 August 2018. In all 215 students of Class VIII to X and teaching staff attended the Workshop.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Shri SomanathAicha, in charge of the School. D. Mishra, Nrusingha C Behera, Manager, Office of Banking Ombudsman, Bhubaneswar and Nirmal Kumar Behera , former Divisional Manager, Canara Bank conducted the programme.

Shri Mishra mentioned that Financial Literacy Rate in Odisha is very low at 9 per cent compared to all India position of 22 per cent. So banks, RBI, NABARD, NGOs need to conduct more and more programs to increase the outreach. Nrushinga Behera elaborately explained the Banking Ombudsman Scheme and grievance redressal system in banks. Nirmal Kumar Behera explained the credit system, credit culture in banks.

The speakers covered the topics: basics of banking, savings and investments, compounding of interest , credit culture, cyber frauds and role of Banking Ombudsman in Grievance Redressal system in banks.

A financial quiz was conducted. Financial Education Series books published by RBI on “Raju series” were distributed to successful students.

Workshop on Financial Litercay in Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar on May 14, 2018

We have the pleasure in informing that AFLC conducted a Workshop on Financial Literacy in PG Department of Agribusiness Management and Dept of Agricultural Economics in the Orissa University of Agricultural and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar on 14th May 2018.

At the outset, Dr. Samarendra Mohapatra, Prof. & Head of Department, Agribusiness Management welcomed the guests and the participants.

Shri Shreedhar Behera, Banking Ombudsman, Reserve Bank of India, Bhubaneswar was the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he explained the broad functions of RBI and Banking Ombudsman Scheme and the grievance redressal system for bank customers.

In the inauguration session, the video clip of the Interview of Dr Sandip Ghose, Director, National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) at the State Level Conclave on Financial Litercay and Financial Inclusion organised by AFLC  on 10 March 2018  was shown to the participants.

The workshop was conducted by D. Mishra, Managing Partner, AFLC; R C Das, Former CGM, RBI;  S. Choudhury, former General Manager, RBI; Subhranshu  Mohapatra, Former GM, State Bank of India.

In the workshop, the speakers discussed and provided valuable inputs on importance of financial system, banking structure, currency management, Financial Awareness Messaging of RBI, (KYC Norms, Credit Culture, Grievance Redressal and Going Digital), Credit rating, Agricultural Project Finance, Start up financing and technology in banks.

HDFC officers Snigdha Mohanty and Bikash Tripathy explained digital banking, e-wallet and UPI platform.

Conclave on ‘Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion’ organized by AFLC on March 10, 2018

Odisha Financial Literacy Forum has organised a State level Conclave on ‘Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion’, promoted by Abhyutthana Financial Learning Centre (AFLC) at Jayadev Bhawan.

The Conclave vividly deliberated on emerging challenges and opportunities for investors and institutions in financial inclusion process. The inaugural session was attended by dignitaries like Prafulla Samal, Minister for MSME, Odisha, Prashant Saran, former Whole-Time Member, SEBI, P. Krishnamurthy, Former Chief General Manager, RBI, Dr. K. C. Mishra, Director, Doha Bank, Dr. and Manabendra Mishra, General Manager (OIC) RBI, Bhubaneswar.

The conclave was attended by leading brains of Financial Sector, Banking Sector Officials, Academia, Insurance, Mutual Funds Experts, MSME Entrepreneurs, Delegates and Students from reputed Business Schools.

The conclave held prominence in the backdrop of the ‘National Strategy for Financial Education of Government of India, 2009’, which stresses the need on financial education for furthering financial inclusion and inclusive growth.

Investor Awareness Program at Bhubaneswar on 24 February 2018

AFLC in collaboration with CDSL, and Nirmal Bang Securities Pvt Ltd, Kolkata organised an Investor Awareness Program in Bhubaneswar on 24 February 2018. In all, 50 participants, mostly senior bank, insurance, RBI officials, senior citizens attended. The topic of discussion was: “Market as an Asset Class, Current Market Scenario, Alternative Investment Avenues”.

Mr Joydeep Mukherjee, Regional Head- East, Nirmal Bang and Mr Moloy Biswas, Regional Head-East CDSL conducted the program and interacted with the participants.

Dr Ashok Sahu, former Executive Director, NALCO inaugurated the program. D.Mishra, Managing Partner welcomed the guests and participants and explained the objective of the program. Mr Pravat Mohanty, NirmalBang , Bhubaneswar proposed a vote of thanks.

Workshop on Financial Litercay for SHG Beneficiaries at Chhtrapur, Ganjam District

AFLC in collaboration with Utkal Grameen Bank (Head Office : Bolangir) organised a Workshop on Financial Literacy for the SHG Beneficiaries at the venue St Judes Junior College, Chhatrapur in Ganjam District on 28 February 2018. Around 360 women beneficiaries from 36 SHG Groups and few students of the college participated.

At the outset the AFLC members were given a traditional welcome by the participants. The meeting started with a welcome song rendered by a group of participants.

D.Mishra, Managing Partner, AFLC, Siladitya Choudhury former GM, RBI and Dharani Dhar Mishra, former GM, NABARD and Rajyabardhan Dhal Mohapatra, Regional Manager, Utkal Grameen Bank , Berhampur Region conducted the workshop.

The speakers emphasised on savings and investment in life, group dynamics, explained the basics of banking, KYC Norms, maintaining a good credit culture, rudiments of digital banking, and need to guard against cyber frauds. Shri D D Mishra, who particularly has a long experience in the working of SHG advised to maintain a good credit culture and group dynamism. His session was very interactive.
